Someone else has already said it best

If the stakes were high enough - if the evil were evil enough, if the good were good enough - I would simply tap a secret resevoir of courage that had been accumulating inside me over the years. Courage, I seemed to think, comes to us in finite quantities, like an inheritance, and by being frugal and stashing it away… we steadily increase our moral capital in preparation for that day when the account must be drawn down.

The Academy Hookup

I get emails from The Academy Hookup. I really couldn’t even begin to tell you what that is, they don’t even show up when you google them, but they’re certainly real and they seem to enjoy emailing me. I usually just delete them because I’m lazy and I just don’t really care. But they emailed me twice today and I finally decided enough was enough. I scrolled to the bottom and clicked “Unsubscribe” which, as I should have expected, brought me to a lovely 404 - page not found. It’s one of those cute ones, too, that says things like “whoops, our bad.”

I still don’t really care, but what a silly and annoying way to run a business.

PS: This kinda puts that Dixie Chicks situation into perspective, doesn’t it?
These signs and protests are so bizarre. I wanted to say something about how disgusting and off-base they are, but they’re pretty much just a mockery of themselves, right? I guess what gets me the most upset is the attention they get for simply yelling the loudest.
But on the other hand, if poor spelling, random name calling and somewhat arbitrarily placed quotation marks are the best they’ve got, I feel pretty confident I’m on the right side of things with BHO.

So awesome. The amount of people drawn to these protests get me a little worried, but then they make signs like this and I’m like, “Oh, right. It’s you guys,” and then everything goes back to normal.

And the so-called real world will not discourage you from operating on your default settings, because the so-called real world of men and money and power hums merrily along in a pool of fear and anger and frustration and craving and worship of self. Our own present culture has harnessed these forces in ways that have yielded extraordinary wealth and comfort and personal freedom. The freedom all to be lords of our tiny skull-sized kingdoms, alone at the center of all creation. This kind of freedom has much to recommend it. But of course there are all different kinds of freedom, and the kind that is most precious you will not hear much talk about much in the great outside world of wanting and achieving. The really important kind of freedom involves attention and awareness and discipline, and being able truly to care about other people and to sacrifice for them over and over in myriad petty, unsexy ways every day.
